If you were not
limited by the demands of the national/regional curriculum …
The
term curriculum refers to the
lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific course or
program. Depending on how broadly educators define or employ the
term, curriculum typically refers to the knowledge and skills students
are expected to learn, which includes the learning
standards or learning
objectives they are expected to meet; the units and lessons
that teachers teach; the assignments and projects given to students; the books,
materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course; and the tests, assessments, and
other methods used to evaluate student learning. An individual teacher’s curriculum,
for example, would be the specific learning standards, lessons,
assignments, and materials used to organize and teach a particular course.
I
work in a special education classroom with students who struggle to match its
expertise to the of their classmates and in which many times not valued are the
priorities of these students. If I had to prioritize a CLIL content for them it
would be the work of personal autonomy. For me it is very important that my
students know how to solve problems of everyday life, much more than the
acquisition of many contents of learning.
To
prioritize this type of content we must find a new way of work and evaluation.
To work objectives, for example, order, buy, get a metro ticket,... we should take
learning to more realistic situations and the teacher should be a guide of
their learning. In assessing, let students act alone in a real situation to see
how can navigate by it. When the student gets the proposed objective gets
maximum satisfaction and is more motivated to continue the learning process.
The
teacher first has to act as a guide and know the kind of needs of each student
to be able to adjust the teachings at every level and demand more or less to
students. If we prioritize, in the ordinary classroom, this type of content
would create, in my opinion, students more confident and motivated in schools,
and they would find a meaning to the learning that is taking place.
